Despite growing demand for lightweighting, Aluminum Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies were not effectively serving the market due to high costs and low throughput. Recognizing this void, the founders saw an opportunity for a step-change. To get aluminum AM on the production floor, the technology needed to be fast, safe and simple.
The most important key to success is the team, and since the founders had worked together previously, they wasted no time getting started. They stayed resourceful, aiming to accelerate the core technology development–including putting the company in a 100 year old carriage house.
All three founders have been rooted in the Boston hardware startup ecosystem for a decade and gained reputations for building strong teams capable of making the impossible possible. Alloy Enterprises was founded in early 2020 and within a year was making parts. Armed with a process that can scale to production, there was nowhere to go but up.
