3DPro® – Additive Manufacturing at Nippon Gases
For many years, Nippon Sanso Holdings Corporation has focused its research and development on additive manufacturing processes. During this time, the company has acquired outstanding expertise worldwide in 3D printing processes and their optimization. On this basis, the company develops – in cooperation with external partners – quality-assuring solutions for metallic additive manufacturing processes.
Within this process chain, gases play a key role: from the production of base material by means of powder atomization, through the inerting of the process chamber during component production, to the thermal post-treatment of the additive products.
The use of the right process gas can positively influence building process quality, reproducibility and mechanical component properties. Our “Additive Manufacturing Advanced Room” technology center near Tokyo is equipped with several additive equipment technologies from different manufacturers. This enables us to research and develop new gas mixtures and hardware products for 3D printing.
Oxygen and moisture – precisely regulate with modern technology
Once absorbed, a problem forever! These two pollutants can be extremely harmful depending on the processed material: in case of aluminum or titanium, these will react with moisture to form hydrogen and metallic oxide; in case of steels, local defect could arise. Furthermore, thanks to the study carried on in our laboratories, we demonstrated a synergic effect between oxygen and moisture that can negatively affect the final properties of the object. To respond to the need to control and, in fact, eliminate these two crucial variables, Nippon Gases developed the new, innovative 3DPro® Line hardware to support the entire process. In this way, the reproducibility of an additive metal manufacturing process cannot be compromised by uncontrolled oxygen and moisture levels.
