PrintStones is an Austrian start-up that deals with automation in construction. The focus lies on the development of 3D printing processes for concrete and other cementitious materials.
Flexible on site
The customer can, with the help of the Printstones device, print components in various form, color and surface texture directly on the construction site. This eliminates costs for the installation of the parts. It also reduces the CO2 and particulate matter pollution during construction. Particularly suitable is the process for production of pressure-stressed components in the civil engineering segment. The momentary printing speed is about 15 centimeters per second.
Fine interaction
The challenge lies in the optimization of the system parameter, as it is an
interplay of machine components, environmental conditions, materials and 3-D models.
Test module in 3D
Printstones is a spin-off of the Vienna University of Technology. The business idea arose in the development of simulation tools for stress and strain analysis. To verify the simulation results, the virtual components had to be rebuilt and loaded. As this is a very costly and time-consuming process, the group searched for possibilities of automated production of these components from 3-D models.
