A vibrant and circular space economy
In the next 20 years, we will see a mass migration of global capability from being Earth-based to space-based. All manner of services and products will be delivered to Earth from the sky above. The near-Earth space economy will be a vibrant ecosystem of satellites, factories and habitats and the gateway to the rest of the solar system.
To realise this vision, we are developing scalable and sustainable space transportation technology to become the backbone of the near-space economy. We are redefining how we deliver hardware to space, position assets on orbit and return products to Earth. We do this to serve humanity for decades to come, without harming our environment in the process.
The problem:
Today’s space architecture is not built to handle modern needs.
The majority of fortune 500 companies such as big pharma, energy, communication and agriculture companies, all will want to operate in the trillion-dollar space economy. They want to monitor crops from space in real-time, manufacture super drugs and super material in microgravity and provide genuinely global connectivity and awareness. This will change space from being a niche to mainstream and a significant contributor to the worldwide economy.
Before starting Dawn Aerospace, we could see this opportunity the world over. But we were disappointed because we knew it would never happen with current technology, as rockets do not work. They are too expensive, too unreliable, horrendously wasteful and don’t scale. Even if only 10% of proposed space industries of the future are to become a reality, rockets as we know them, no matter how cheap, won’t meet future demand as they are fundamentally unable to scale to the thousands of launches needed per year.
We are not interested in building the cheapest rocket
Many new space launcher companies are focusing on making rockets cheaper using modern, but expensive, technologies such as carbon fibre and 3D printing. But those efforts are based on the same 1950s expendable rocket technology and therefore subject to the same airspace restrictions, launch site costs and wastefulness associated with technology originally meant for nuclear missiles.
Dawn Aerospace is bringing space transportation into the scalable yet sustainable era; Where we reuse hardware thousands of times. Where spaceplanes integrate with, not displace, other air users. Where toxic rocket chemicals and throwing dead rockets in the ocean is a thing of the past.
